What is an Existing Recreational Trail?
An existing recreational trail is a trail (paved or unpaved) for hiking, biking, equestrian, multi-use (non motorized), or paddling use that is open to the public. This does not include in-road bike lanes or sidewalks. Currently, we are only collecting information on non-motorized trails.

Uploading Your Trails Data

Before You Upload:
Uploading data requires a user log-in name and password, which can be obtained through OGT or GeoPlan staff (see "Request Log-in" below or "Login" link to the left).

Instructions for Uploading:

  1. Include Required Attributes
Before uploading the shapefile, please make sure that the DBF contains the required attributes. We are currently revising the required attributes that must be included with each trail record. For now, each trail submitted must at least be attributed:
        - Trail Name
        - Trail Use (Hiking, Biking, Equestrian, Paddling, etc)

There are additional fields that were previously required for each trails upload, and we encourage data submitters to complete as much of that information as possible. However, the entire list of attributes are no longer required.

  2. Include Projection Information
Please include projection information for the shapefile that is being uploaded. Projection information can be submitted in a textfile, document, or .prj file.

  3. Complete Upload Form and Upload the Shapefile
Please be sure to include the .shp, .shx, .dbf, and .prj files for all shapefiles submitted. Additional files such as .sbx, .sbn, .aih, and .ain may be included, but are not necessary.

Multiple files may be submitted at a time, but we recommend zipping all files together into one zip file and then uploading the zip file.
